Program // Work-space strategy, space planning and interior architecture The overall vision with the spatial design was to place the functionality of a conventional paint shop within an inspirational universe with room for experimenting with colors and ideas. On the ceiling of the site, artist David Risley has painted an art piece, and textile drapes hand painted with the File Under Pop colors decorate the walls and windows. The available paint colors are displayed along the wall, but in order to show the variety of options and different expressions, the paint can take when used in different color combinations and for different purposes, many artistic features are showcased in the lab as well. This is why the paint color mixer has been given a central role in the interior design, as it is located visibly so that the costumers can follow the process.įurther, in order to facilitate engagement and interaction, seating areas were created, inviting the guests in for creative contemplation – these took the form of custom-built tile benches. Our starting point was to design a place that reflected transparency around the creation of the final product – the paint. With Color Lab the aim is to blur the lines between paint shop, showroom and art gallery, hereby urging the guests to take their time to engage with the colors and get inspired and guided by the staff.īRIQ has played an integral part in bringing their vision of the shop to life. The Color Lab is their take on a paint shop and paint pick-up point, but it also lifts the conventional concept to new heights. Color is not only to be looked at, but also talked about and engaged with as an active tool.
